CULT Speaker Series - Aslı Aygüneş

LISTEN

Analyzing feminist women's stories of involvement in the feminist movement, this study looks at how emotions shape and transform feminist activist experiences in Turkey. Using frameworks of affective dissonance and affective solidarity, this study shows that women activists switch between feelings of anger, hope, joy, and despair when explaining their participation in the movement and their desire to stay in it. This interplay between affects leads to resilient solidarities that keep re/forming in the feminist movement mobilizing under the current restricted civil space and the authoritarian, repressive and conservative sociopolitical context in Turkey.
